History of Lions Club International

WHY CHOOSE LIONS CLUB OF BARBADOS?

Lions Club International’s motto is “We Serve”.  For over 60 years Lions have been serving the people of Barbados with pride.

Through the establishment of the Barbados Lions Foundation (BLF) as a registered charity, it is hoped that the Lions & Leos of Zone 3A will access the resources necessary to create a more powerful service impact by:

  • Enable Lions Clubs of Barbados to facilitate projects, directly and or indirectly to reduce circumstances according to Club International guidelines to empower, reduce suffering bringing relief to its targeted groups.
  • widening the pool of potential donors, as some corporate entities only give to registered charities; and
  • incentivising individuals to donate, as these contributions are tax-deductible.

WHAT ARE THE OBJECTIVES OF BLF?

The objects derived from LCI’s global causes are:

  • To undertake activities to provide help and support towards improving the quality of life of persons with disabilities.
  • To undertake programmes to reduce the prevalence of non-communicable diseases and improve the quality of life of those diagnosed. 
  • To ensure that the vulnerable members of the community have access to nutritious food.
  • To support the needs of persons affected by cancer.
  • To sustainably protect and restore

WHO WILL BE THE MEMBERS OF LIONS CLUB OF BARBADOS FOUNDATION?

All members in good standing (i.e., a financial member) of each Lions and

Leo Clubs of Zone 3A shall be eligible to become members of the Foundation. Honorary membership may be conferred on any person who has distinguished himself or made exceptional contributions or achievements towards the objects of the Foundation.

The annual membership fee of $10.00 is payable on July 1 of each year by each Lion and $5.00 by each Leo on the Foundation’s membership list on June 30 of that year. The annual membership fee must be paid up for a member to be eligible to vote at the annual general meeting.

HOW OFTEN WILL MEETINGS BE HELD?

Trustee meetings shall be held every quarter. At least one (1) meeting of the general membership shall be held per year. The annual general meeting shall be held by September 30. Special meetings of Trustees or the general membership shall be held as necessary

HOW WILL DONATIONS BE RECOGNISED?

BLF will have a Donor Recognition Programme to acknowledge individual Lions and Leos, Lions and Leo Clubs, Club of Zone 3A shall be eligible to become members of the Foundation.

Awarded to Lion or Leo who personally donates at the following cumulative levels:

  • $1,000.00 – Bronze            
  • $ 2,000.00 – Silver 
  • $ 3,000.00 – Gold
  • $ 5,000.00 – Diamond
  • $10,000.00 – Platinum

CECIL de CAIRES FELLOWSHIP

Awarded to a Lion or Leo in recognition of his outstanding service by a Lion or Leo Club which donates at the following cumulative levels on behalf of individual Lions or Leos:

  • $2,000.00
  • $4,000.00 – Silver
  • $6,000.00 – Gold
  • $8,000.00 – Diamond
  • $10,000.00 – Platinum

Awarded to a member of the public or a business for donations at the following cumulative levels:
