GUIDELINES FOR REQUESTING GRANT FUNDING

About Barbados Lions Foundation

The Barbados Lions Foundation (BLF) was established to achieve the following objectives:

(a) To undertake activities to provide help and support in improving the quality of life of
persons with disabilities.
(b) To undertake programmes to reduce the prevalence of non-communicable diseases
and improve the quality of life of those diagnosed.
(c) To ensure that the vulnerable members of the community have access to nutritious
food.
(d) To support the needs of persons affected by cancer.
(e) To provide disaster relief and sustainably protect and restore our environment for the
benefit of all.
(f) To support humanitarian activities in youth and community service initiatives

Types of Projects to Qualify for Funding by the Foundation

Funds can be used to support service projects which will realize the above stated objectives of the Foundation.

Service projects can be proposed by a club/organization or individual member of the community
seeking assistance for an individual, family or community

Activities not Eligible for Funding by the Foundation

The following activities will not be eligible for funding from the Foundation:

  • Reimbursements of expenses for activities already completed
  • Consumable supplies (i.e. stationery, computer/printing supplies, etc.)
  • Operating expenses or salaries of established programmers and institutions

Key Criteria for Assessing Applications

✓ Projects must address an important humanitarian need and provide an opportunity to highlight Lions/Leos in the community.
✓ Provides long-term benefits to the target group(s) of the project.

Application Endorsement

Applications submitted by a Club/Organization must be endorsed by the Club/Organization president on behalf of the Board of Directors.

Steps for Applying for a Grant

a. Develop a project for the community/target group based on a Needs Assessment and consultations with all relevant stakeholders (partners/beneficiaries/other Lions Clubs).

b. Complete the grant application form attaching relevant supporting documentation (quotations/letters of agreement/support from named implementing partners/drawings/ designs, etc.)

c. Ensure application is endorsed by appropriate persons, identified in the application endorsement section.

Application Submission and Review

Applications should be submitted to the Foundation via email to [email protected].

Applications should be submitted at minimum 90 days prior to the commencement of the project to allow adequate processing time.

During this phase applicants may be required to provide additional information or respond to queries.

Reporting

A reporting schedule will be determined at the approval stage based on the duration and nature of the project.

A final report must be submitted to the Foundation within one (1) month of completion of the project.
